Dr. Richard Centar, O.D., graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in 1980 with a degree in biology then went on to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry earning his O.D. degree as part of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society. He has been certified in both Laser Refractive Post-Op Surgery Care and management of Ocular Diseases. In addition to working with Doctors of Optometry, Dr. Centar has also been a consultant for the James E. Van Zandt Medical Center in Altoona, PA since 1997.
Dr. Centar is an active member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association, American Optometric Association and three-time winner of Southwestern Optometric Society Optometrist of the Year as well as the 1995 and 1997 President. He also won Altoona’s Mirror Hometown Favorite Optometrist in 2005, 2007, 2013, and 2014. Currently, he resides in Duncansville, PA with his wife, Charlene, and has 3 children.
Dr. Ryan Imler, O.D., graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor of science degree in biology and continued his education at The Ohio State University, receiving his doctorate of optometry in 1998.
Dr. Imler is a member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, Southwestern Optometric Association (2004 president) and Vision U.S.A. and has participated in the Altoona Lion’s Club and Lion Sight Vision Conservation Foundation of Blair County. For two straight years, Dr. Imler was named Southwestern Optometric Society, Young Optometrist of the Year. Currently, he resides in Duncansville, PA with his wife, Buffy, 4 children, and Stella (their dog).
Dr. Dana C. Gjurich graduated summa cum laude from Saint Francis University in 1991 and continued her education at Pennsylvania College of Optometry, graduating in 1995. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, Southwestern Optometric Association and Vision U.S.A.
Dr. Gjurich’s areas of expertise are specialty contact lens fittings and low vision evaluations. Currently, she resides in Cresson, PA with her husband and son.
Dr. Greg Caldwell, O.D., is a 1995 graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He completed a one-year residency in primary care and ocular disease at the Eye Institute of Philadelphia, PA. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and Board Certified by the American Board of Optometry.
On top of working with Doctors of Optometry as an ocular disease consultant, he is a well-respected lecturer. He lectures several times throughout the year to his colleagues. He has given over 300 lectures in numerous U.S. cities and in over 12 countries. Dr. Caldwell has been a participant in multiple FDA investigations.
He is a current member and past President of the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Optometric Association (POA). He currently chairs Third Party Committee of the POA and is the Board Chair of the Pennsylvania Optometric Political Action Committee. He is member of the State Government Committee for the American Optometric Association. He served 3 years on the Board of Trustees for the American Optometric Association. Currently, he is a member of the President’s Council for the American Academy of Optometry (AAO).
Locally, Dr. Caldwell is the President of the Blair/Clearfield Association for the Blind and Visually-Impaired.
Dr. Caldwell has received many awards and in 2015 was awarded the Albert Fitch Memorial Alumnus of the Year from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University.
Dr. Parekh is very excited to be working with Drs. Centar, Imler, Gjurich and Caldwell to offer in-house surgical consultation & laser treatment.
Dr. Parekh completed his residency at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute (Baltimore, MD). He then specialized in cataract surgery, LASIK, cornea surgery and glaucoma surgery during his fellowship with Minnesota Eye Consultants (Minneapolis, MN).
Dr. Parekh completed his Fellowship Training in 2008 and has performed thousands of sight saving surgical procedures during his career.
Dr. Parekh has been practice in Central/Western Pennsylvania since 2011, after spending several years in practice in Massachusetts, with offices in Boston and Cape Cod and clinical appointments at Harvard/Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary and Tufts/New England Eye Center.
Dr. Parekh has been a pioneer in bringing many new surgical treatments to the area. For example, he was the first surgeon to offer “Bladeless LASIK” in Blair County. In addition, he is the only surgeon performing the latest cataract & glaucoma techniques such as the iStent, the Dual Blade Goniotomy and the XEN Gel Stent.
